Women In Science and Technology (WIST)

Who We Are

WIST Banner

Argonne’s Women in Science and Technology (WIST) program was created in 1990 to recruit, retain, and promote women in an effort to diversify and strengthen the Laboratory’s scientific workforce. The program aims to promote the success of women in scientific and technical positions at Argonne, and outside as well. Through WIST, the Laboratory strives to encourage and develop the full potential of women in science and technology.

What We Do

WIST has the responsibility to continue breaking barriers for future generations of women in STEM. We will continue to build a rich and thriving community that not only brings to life the aspirations of both current and future women in STEM, but also helps fulfill Argonne’s mission of conducting science that positively impacts our nation and world. This spirit guides our activities. Strengthening the diversity of Argonne brings the entire laboratory community together. Regardless of who you are, numerous opportunities for participation exist.

Purpose:

Support Argonne’s strategic plan for diversity, providing leadership and resources to promote the success of women in scientific and technical positions at the Laboratory. WIST has a broad base of volunteers enabling its initiatives to thrive and benefit Argonne’s culture, visibility, and ability to attract a diverse workforce.

Mission:

  1. Provide leadership and resources to Argonne to promote the success of women in scientific and technical positions at the Laboratory and elsewhere;
  2. Support and implement programs that encourage, develop, and utilize the full potential of women in science and technology; and
  3. Promote movement toward equity at all levels within Argonne so as to contribute to a best-in-class research and development institution.
