Hispanic/Latino Club ERG

The Argonne Hispanic-Latino Club (AHLC) is one of several Employee Resource Groups at Argonne. Founded in 2003, the AHLC celebrates the proud Hispanic/Latino cultures. Our mission is to promote fellowship, share the richness and diversity of the Hispanic/Latino cultures, network as professionals and coworkers, and share ideas and resources that benefit the Hispanic/Latino community and all employees at the Argonne Site. We are proud to have over 70 members from across the Laboratory of both Hispanic and non-Hispanic backgrounds.
AHLC hosts regular social events, assists in new employee orientation, organizes fundraisers for charitable donations to the community, reaches out to the Hispanic communities around the Laboratory to encourage STEM careers, and supports the Laboratory’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Initiative.
Cultural education:
With support from the Argonne Diversity Office, the AHLC has invited entertainers/educators to the Lab to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Annual Educational Outreach Day at the Laboratory:
Each year, a local middle school is invited to Argonne to interact with Argonne scientists and staff to encourage careers in the STEM fields.
Supporting our community:
We partner with local charities during the winter holiday season to provide clothing and gifts to needy families.
Scholarship opportunities in under-represented communities:
We have been active in forming partnerships with local school districts and universities to advocate careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. To date, the AHLC has donated over $40,000 through its scholarship programs. Scholarships range in support from the high school, undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
