STEM Education Volunteering with K-12 Students

Who We Are

The Education Volunteer Program is comprised of Argonne staff who want to give back to the education community and help inspire the next generation! Any Argonne staff member can join (both STEM and non-STEM professionals) as the 100’s of requests received from schools, non-profits and our own education programs span all fields.

The program sits within the STEM Education Teams, within Institutional Partnerships and is in the S&TPO directorate.

What We Do

The Education Volunteer Program connects Argonne staff to a variety of opportunities in the education community.  Some examples are the following:

  • Career Day presentations to classrooms (K-12)
  • Panelist/guest speakers for K-12
  • Judges for local and virtual science fairs
  • Supporting student competitors in both Argonne and non-Argonne competitions
  • Consulting for new education activities/curriculum
  • STEM fair activity facilitation with youth and families
  • And so much more!

Education staff also provide science communication training, presentation templates, hands-on activity boxes and coaching for volunteers seeking to improve their skills.

Lastly, the Education department holds an annual education volunteer celebration in partnership with WIST, Hispanic Outreach Day and ACT-SO to recognize all the amazing contributions done by volunteers throughout the year.
